Oriental Rugs

Almost all of the handmade rugs presently produced are made in Asia. They are usually known as oriental rugs. In other non Asian countries prices of oriental rugs are much higher. Each country in Asian region has developed its own unique style of oriental rugs(for example India and Pakistan in centeral asia, China and Mongolia in Far East).

India is located in South Central Asia. Weaving of carpets was something new for that country. The oriental rugs weaving craft was brought there by Persians. That is the main reason the almost all Indian oriental rugs are usully imitate famous Persian motifs.

Only high quality of used wool differs them fom Persian. Much more rough wool is used in Indian oriental rugs. And almost the same thing can be said about Pakistan which is the fourth largest oriental rugs maker all aroud the globe.

As for the China rugs weaving tradition their oriental rugs are widely spread not only in China itsef but also in neighbouring Mongolia.

The interesting thing about chinse oriental rugs is that Chinese have always treated wool as a barbarian material used a silk instead. Nowadays China is a world leader in the oriental rugs production on far east.

The Mongolian style of carpet weaving have a lot of different designs combined together. Many people believe that rugs weaving craft had originated in Mongolia and then moved to Persia but the only thing we know for sure is that the rug weaving started somewhere between Persia and Mongolia.
